Warnings against mass slaughter of birds

This Russian makes a pretty compelling argument against massive bird slaughter:

Very well-done; very informative; I'll have to say that 40,000 people killed in car accidents (and imagining all of those not killed but mangled) is what's now in my imagination. Just too hard to think about a pandemic or a nuclear attack.

Thanks.

The thing about preparing for a nuclear attack is the threat really doesn't go away. There is no good prevention coming in a few months. In bird flu you only have to survive a while away from the virus and get vaccinated to go back to a normal life.

That being said we do have some of the potassium iodine (IOSAT)that protects the thyroid in case of a radioactive drift. Such an easy thing to put in the medicine chest.

My guess is your imagination will change soon. If this thing mutates, and people start to die, it will catch your attention. The question is whether at that time, when "group think" decides it is time to prepare, there will be supplies available.

I like thinking ahead of the group. For one thing it takes a while to really stock up. Today I have 9 months of olive oil. Maybe next week I'll have my rice and beans and pasta.

If everyone waits until "group think" focuses your imagination on pandemic it will feel like you waited until late December to do your Christmas shopping and all the really good toys (masks, gloves) will be gone.
